  • The Reverend Marc Burnette

    CHAPLAIN & RECTOR

    The Rev. Marc Burnette joined us in July of 2009. Marc came to us from St. Andrew's Episcopal in Birmingham, where he began his ministry in 2001. Before St. Andrew's, Marc was Curate for Trinity Church in Florence, AL.

    Marc was ordained to the priesthood in November, 1999 and attended the General Theological Seminary in New York City. Before entering seminary, Marc studied here, at the University of Alabama, majoring in Psychology and then earning an MFA in Creative Writing with a concentration in poetry.  

  • The Rev. Deacon Lucinda Roff

    DEACON

    The Rev. Dr. Cindy Roff has served as Canterbury’s deacon since 2011. Cindy completed her undergraduate work at Yale University, and holds an M.S.S.W. from the University of Wisconsin and a Ph.D. in social work from the University of Denver. She came to Alabama in 1974 as a social work faculty member with a specialization in working with older adults. In her 40+ years at UA, Cindy taught, conducted research, and served as the School of Social Work’s dean for 17 years. As Canterbury’s deacon, her focus is to bring the needs of the world to the church and help the church respond to the needs of the world. In addition to participating in the liturgy, she is active in the church’s Deacon’s Deli program, coordinates the church’s outreach funding, and serves on the boards of two local social service agencies. 

  • Dr. Jennifer Roth-Burnette

    ORGANIST & CHOIR DIRECTOR

    Dr. Jennifer Roth-Burnette, organist and choirmaster of Canterbury Chapel, has been a church musician for 25 years. She served as organist in a wide variety of worship settings during her college years, sang professionally under the direction of David Hurd during her years in New York, and has since served as organist/choirmaster in a number of Episcopal churches in Alabama. Jennifer earned her Bachelor and Master of music degrees in organ at LSU and at UA, respectively, went on to study historical keyboard performance at the Brussels Royal Conservatory, and then completed the Ph.D. In Music History at New York University. She considers it a calling to find and foster those places where the human heart meets God through music. 

    Jennifer also works full time at The University of Alabama as director of the Center for Academic Success, seeking to expand ways to foster academic community and to enrich teaching and learning. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with Marc and their children, gardening, photography, and writing.

  • Sandy Wilson

    PARISH ASSISTANT

    Sandy Wilson is Canterbury’s parish assistant.  Sandy recently retired from UA, where she served as executive secretary, with experience at the Law School, the University Press, and the School of Social Work. Sandy is a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
