Sunday School for

Adults and Children

Canterbury offers Sunday School classes for children and adults prior to the 10am Sunday service. Topics are wide ranging, but focus on Bible study and the connection between our Christian faith and contemporary life and issues.

Chaplain’s Class

We gather every Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m. in the Student Center for fellowship, hanging out, eating food, discussing what’s going on in the world and on campus, and exploring our faith together. We believe that God’s dream for all of us is to become hopeful, generous, reconciled, and grounded in love. We spend time playing and praying, turning our hearts toward God and toward one another. We always have room for more, so please join us anytime!

Art Classes

Ann Betak, retired studio art faculty member at The University of Alabama, teaches art classes each Tuesday morning at Canterbury. Ann has participated in numerous solo, invitational, and juried exhibitions over her long career. Art class members work in acrylics, watercolor, charcoal, and mixed media. Each year art class students’ work is shown at an exhibit at Canterbury’s Betak-Frangoulis Gallery.

Education for Ministry

Canterburians are active participants in Tuscaloosa’s Education for Ministry (EfM) classes.  EfM is a world-wide program of theological education sponsored by the School of Theology at The University of the South.  Adult learners follow a four-year curriculum designed to help students encounter the breadth and depth of the Christian tradition and bring it into conversation with their experiences of the world.
